Abstract
With the identi!cation of the Jaramillo geomagnetic subchron(1.07–0.99 Ma), the Early Pleistocene vertebrate succession of Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia) represents a time span scarcely recorded in Europe. Seven lithostratigraphic units have been di'erentiated (QS-1 to QS-7) within the Quibas-Sima sedimentary sequence. To complete the existing chronostratigraphic framework published earlier, we provide here additional information about the micromammal succession along the sedimentary in!ll, as well as new numerical age results from the combined U-series/ESR dating of one equid tooth from QS-3. In addition, a preliminary analysis of the carbon and oxygen isotopic signal preserved in the bioapatite of the dental enamel of large mammals has been carried out in order to obtain detailed information on the habitat in which these animals lived.
